As the strongest disinfectant used for water treatment, ozone is ideally-qualified for disinfection of water in closed or open cooling water circulations. Its high activity is ensured at any pH. Its major advantage is, that no undesired by-products are developed and ozone itself decomposes to oxygen. Its disadvantage is a low half-life and a weak solubility in water. Nevertheless, it is increasingly used in cooling water due to its low operating costs and it’s ecological benefit. Due to it’s highest biocide activity no resistances can be developed. Additionally, contamination with Legionella is impossible in the presence of ozone.
To protect metallic parts in the cooling water circulation system against corrosion, special inhibitors can be used. By reacting, ozone decomposes to harmless oxygen. For that reason ecological problems are avoided even with strongly contaminated water. The application is very economical because, with the exception of electric energy, oxygen, (either from the air or pure oxygen and cooling water, no additional operating resources are necessary.
With the help of DULCOTEST® - sensors, a measurement-dependent metering of ozone is possible.
